Arcane (Season 02)

“There is no prize to perfection…only an end to pursuit.”

When we sat down to watch Arcane S02, we weren’t sure if it could live up to the brilliance of the first season. Turns out, it didn’t just meet our expectations, it completely shattered them in the best way possible. From the moment the season kicked off with the aftermath of Jinx’s explosive attack, we were hooked. The show picks up right where it left off, diving headfirst into chaos and grief, while still delivering the intricate storytelling that made the first season so special. The animation? Still breathtaking. The character arcs? Deeper than ever. But, let us tell you, this season had its fair share of moments that left us both in awe and a little frustrated.

What really stood out to us was the character development. Vi and Jinx’s fractured relationship remains the emotional core of the show, and it’s just as heart-wrenching as ever. Watching Jinx teeter between guilt and madness while trying to care for Isha, a young orphan, was devastating yet oddly heartwarming. Meanwhile, Vi’s struggles with grief and her complicated dynamic with Caitlyn felt raw and authentic. Speaking of Caitlyn, her rise to leadership brought a whole new dimension to her character. And don’t even get us started on Viktor’s transformation; it’s one of the most compelling arcs we’ve seen in a while, blending ambition with a chilling sense of inevitability.

Now, the visuals? Simply put, they’re on another level. Every frame feels like a work of art, with Zaun’s gritty greens and Piltover’s golden glow perfectly reflecting the series’ themes of disparity. The action sequences are pure magic, intense, emotional, and beautifully choreographed. Plus, the soundtrack ties it all together, balancing orchestral grandeur with gritty, industrial beats. Jinx’s eerie themes and Viktor’s sombre melodies added so much depth to pivotal moments. Fortiche has truly outdone themselves here, making every scene an absolute feast for the senses.

Some of the storylines, like Jayce’s journey and Jinx’s sudden shifts in personality, felt like they needed more breathing room. It’s not that the storytelling wasn’t good, it’s just that there was so much packed into this season that we wish we had a few more episodes to let everything sink in.

Smash Hit Score: 9.6/10

Still, we have to say, that Arcane S02 is nothing short of extraordinary. It’s rare to find a series that’s this bold, beautiful, and emotionally resonant. Even with its imperfections, it reminded us why we fell in love with the first season in the first place. Whether you’re a die-hard fan of League of Legends or just someone who appreciates stunning storytelling, this season is a must-watch. It’s a bittersweet goodbye to an incredible show, but it’s one that leaves a lasting impression.
