Chants of Sennaar was such a refreshing experience. If you’ve ever wanted to feel like a language detective, this game totally nails it. The whole thing takes place in this massive tower inspired by the Tower of Babel, and each level is home to a different culture, each with its own unique language. Your job? Figure out how to understand all of them and solve puzzles along the way.
What I loved most was how it makes you decode these languages. The game gives you an in-game notebook where you jot down glyphs, symbols that represent words, and from there, you slowly start to piece together what everyone is saying. Honestly, every time I unlocked a new word, it felt so satisfying. You get to translate conversations, figure out what signs say, and even bridge the communication gap between groups. It’s such a cool and rewarding process.
The puzzles tie into this language-learning theme really well. Some of them are straightforward, like figuring out what switches to flip or how to sneak past guards, but others get trickier as you climb higher in the tower. Sometimes, I did get a little lost trying to solve a particularly convoluted puzzle, but the handy notebook was always there to help me keep track of things. It’s definitely a game that makes you think, but in a way that’s super satisfying.

Visually, the game is gorgeous. Each level of the tower has its own vibe, with different colour schemes and architectural styles that really bring the cultures to life. And the music? Just perfect. It adds this serene, mysterious feeling that makes the whole game feel like a quest for knowledge. I found myself just soaking in the atmosphere at times.
Now, there are a few stealth sections that weren’t my favourite. The controls during those moments felt a bit clunky, which led to a few frustrating retries. But honestly, the game makes up for it in so many other ways that I didn’t mind too much. The challenge kept me on my toes, and when things started flowing again, I was right back in the zone.

Chants of Sennaar is a unique and captivating experience. It’s not just a puzzle game; it’s a journey into different languages and cultures, and I loved every minute of it. Sure, there are a few rough spots, but when everything clicks, it’s pure magic.
