Game of the Year 2024

What a fun year it was for gaming, in 2024! We played a lot of indie games and some of the biggest releases of the year.

This time we are doing things a bit differently. If you follow us on Backloggd, then you might already know our favourites of this year. But if you don’t use Backloggd, then no worries at all!

Quick Note: These are our personal favourites (at least among the games we played last year). If you don’t agree with our picks, it’s completely fine. We respect everyone’s opinions 🙂

Best Multiplayer

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine II

Yeah, we know that Helldivers 2 stole the show for multiplayer gaming in 2024, but Space Marine II is great fun when you play the campaign in co-op! As someone who's getting into the 40k lore, experiencing this game helped me get into the world seamlessly. The gameplay is fun, the campaign is great and when you play it with your friends, it's an explosive experience.

Best Gameplay

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown

This was a standout game for us because it was a bit surprising to see Ubisoft creating a great game in recent years. As also shared in our review, I’m a sucker for platformer & metroidvania games and The Lost Crown is an amazing entry to this genre.

Best Art Direction

Tales of Kenzera: Zau

This was a tough pick for us, along with Neva. But ToK: Zau was a great package with an amazing art style, immersive gameplay & a beautiful narrative. We’ll definitely recommend this game!

Best Soundtrack

Neva

Gris made me appreciate Nomada Studio’s work at first and Neva was on our list for the games to play in 2024. Neva is a beautiful adventure with an impacting narrative and brilliant music to go along with it. If you’re a fan of games that lean into storytelling through art and sound, then Neva is absolutely worth exploring.

Best Narrative

Silent Hill 2

This game was one of our most anticipated remakes last year. While we are in an age of remakes & remasters, there are only a few who’ve been able to enhance the overall experience, especially in terms of the narrative. This game knocked it out of the park!

Game of the Year

Animal Well

What an experience this was! Animal Well is a type of game that may not work with everyone. But if you stay around for a bit and when the game starts opening up to you, it’s a whole new thing altogether. I went into this game expecting it to be a simple puzzle game but I was completely surprised & mind blown by the end.
