We just finished watching The Wild Robot, and wow, it really hit us in all the right places. Right from the start, we were drawn in by the stunning animation. The visuals are absolutely gorgeous, with this soft, almost hand-painted style that really brings the island and its wild inhabitants to life. The film manages to find this sweet spot between the beauty of nature and the mechanical world of Roz, the robot at the center of the story. We just couldn’t take our eyes off the screen – it’s like every scene was a piece of art.

The story follows Roz, a robot who gets stranded on a remote island and has to figure out how to survive in the wild. What we didn’t expect was how emotional her journey would be. At first, Roz is just trying to fit in and learn from the animals, but then she ends up caring for an orphaned gosling named Brightbill. That’s where the heart of the movie really shines. Roz’s transformation from a programmed machine into a loving, protective mother figure was so moving. It’s not often that a children’s movie can make you reflect on parenthood, love, and what it means to really care for someone.
We have to say, the voice acting in this movie is top-notch. Lupita Nyong’o as Roz was incredible – she managed to give this robot so much warmth and humanity. And Pedro Pascal as Fink, the mischievous fox, brought a great balance of humour and depth to the film. We loved the little moments between Roz, Fink, and Brightbill. Even though they’re such different characters, they come together to create this unusual but heartwarming family.

One thing we didn’t expect was how real the film felt at times, especially with the survival aspects. There were a few scenes that caught us off guard, like when Roz encounters some of the harsher realities of nature. It’s not overly violent, but it doesn’t shy away from showing that survival in the wild isn’t always easy. Still, these moments only added to the depth of the movie, making the emotional highs feel even more rewarding.
